subURBAN
Melbourne is a city celebrated for its rich history and architectural grandeur, from its historic buildings to the intricate skyscrapers that define its skyline. Yet, the provision of spaces for outdoor activities and physical exercise remains limited within the urban core.
As we look toward the future, it is imperative that our communities prioritize the integration of outdoor activity into daily life. The notion that one cannot be active due to city living—"I can't be active because I live in the city"—should be an outdated excuse.
The various temporary Metro sheds scattered across Melbourne’s CBD stand as underutilized spaces, with no lasting purpose once their respective projects conclude.
Seizing this opportunity, I conceived an innovative outdoor structure, designed to remain open and accessible to the public 24/7. With no entry requirements other than the simple desire to be outdoors, this space seeks to foster physical engagement within the urban environment.
If architecture has the power to promote health and activity by encouraging people to spend time outside, then why not harness that potential to its fullest extent?
